Blessed Be Your Name
In the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow
Blessed be Your name
Blessed Be Your name
When I'm found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed Be Your name
Every blessing You pour out, I'll
Turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name
Blessed be Your name
When the sun's shining down on me
When the world's 'all as it should be'
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name
Every blessing You pour out I'll
Turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name, oh
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name
You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name
God you give and take away
Oh you give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name, oh
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name
Blessed be Your name
You give and take away
God give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name
God you give and take away
Oh you give and take away
But my heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name
Oh you give and take away
God give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name, oh
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name
Blessed be Your name
‘Blessed Be Your Name’
Matt & Beth Redman
There are several places in this song (which is based on several Psalms) where I need to pause before I sing and ask: do I really believe this?
One such stumble was over the line
you give and take away
Do I believe in this unceasing movement which is the Spirit’s transfiguration at work in me?
Do I believe that God’s work in me is a continual flow of exchange: good given, pain removed; even if on so many days it feels like good removed and pain given?
Do I believe in the certainty that the God of Glory longs for my flourishing, for my healing?
Worship, like faith it seems, is an act of trust.
So in that spirit, no matter what my feelings or intellectual beliefs, I ‘choose to say’, I choose to worship as an act of will, I choose in faith to sing ‘blessed be your name’.
I choose to participate in the unceasing movement of Grace, I choose to welcome what arrives and what departs in my life as a blessing from God, accepting that if I but have eyes to see, I will finally comprehend that it is all for my healing.
I choose the creative option. I choose to make all my life an act of worship.
Every blessing You pour out I'll
Turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
